Yards on Former Base Land
Chanute Field operated from 1917 until its 1993 closure, and much of Rantoul's residential land either predates the base, housed base personnel during its 76 active years, or has been redeveloped from former base property since. That layered land-use history shapes lot sizes and yard configurations differently across town.
Outdoor Space Across Different Construction Eras
A yard in a neighborhood built to house base personnel can have different dimensions and setbacks than one on newly redeveloped former base land, which affects what's realistic for a deck project. Knowing that history helps set expectations before design begins.
